Firearms are an undeniable part of American history and culture. In recent decades political, legal, and social forces made them the subject of fierce political discourse and legislative action. As a result, today, it is easier to purchase a firearm, procure a concealed weapon permit to carry it, and justify the use of deadly force through “stand your ground” laws. Recent Democratic campaigns avoided the issue of gun control as a political loser. In light of notorious mass shootings (…Sandy Hook, Parkland, El Paso…), the vulnerability of the NRA and polls overwhelmingly urging action, will 2020 be the year candidates fully debate this divisive and passionate issue?
